Vorticists
What constitutes a vorticist? Is it only the artists that signed the 'round robin' written by Lewis and others on the occasion of his split with Roger Fry's Omega Workshop in 1914? Could it be only those who exhibited in the Vorticist exhibitions in New York? Or can we take a more catholic attitude and include all painters that have stylistic similarities? I prefer to take the latter option, and note where necessary whether the artist was willing to be identified as a Vorticist, or whether he/she was associated with another group.
However we define a Vorticist, there was an enormous amount of borrowing in terms of style, idea, concept and content, regardless of the labels. British art was clearly undergoing a revolution at this time, and was fighting against its gloomy and conservative Victorian background.
